Local Attractions
For a great time we would like to suggest the following itinerary:
DAY 1:
Tour the Colony of Avalon’s archaeological dig in Ferryland with a picnic lunch at the old lighthouse. Dinner theatre is available on selected evenings.
DAY 2:
A hiking trip to the former settlement of LaManche. The river just before the suspension bridge is a nice swimming area.
DAY 3:
A boat tour of the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve and/or a kayaking trip out of Cape Broyle (Stan Cook)or Bay Bulls.
DAY 4:
A hike along the East Coast Trail system- for a short hike we recommend the Beaches and Mickeleen trails that are situated here in Witless Bay- for a longer hike (day trip) we recommend ‘the spout’ trip north of Bay Bulls.
DAY 5:
St. John’s, which takes more than 1 day depending on your interests.
DAY 6:
Salmonier Nature Park on the way to Cape St. Mary’s, a ‘must-see’ while you’re in the area.
If you like an old-fashioned picnic within walking distance, the picnic area by the Lower Pond (which fronts the Atlantic) is ideal.
Upon your arrival we will provide you with a more detailed itinerary of places to visit off the Avalon Peninsula.
